Water continues to capture the attention of the financial community, and jurisdictions from around the world are creating clusters of water researchers, start-ups and multinationals with the intent of capitalizing on solving the global water crisis. Brian Mergalis, the CEO of WaterTAP (The Water Technology Acceleration Project), an organization that the province created to champion the Ontario water sector, explored how Ontario stacks up against other jurisdictions in its support of innovation, and shares some of his insights from having built a successful water technology business in the province prior to his current role. He noted that there were:
- Over 100 research institutes, groups and centres
- Over 900 “water technology” companies
- Over 22,00 jobs in the “water sector”
Brian and his team work to support the Water Technology companies in Ontario to grow and succeed in the domestic and international markets. Their website can be found at www.watertapontario.com
