Our speaker on July 9th was Tim Rigby who as Regional Councillor is serving his fifth term in this role. He formerly served as Mayor of the City of St. Catharines from 1997 to 2006. Tim has also as past President of the Canadian Henley Rowing Corporation and the Canadian Amateur Rowing Association.
Tom spoke to us about the 2013 Henley Regatta and the 2015 Pan Am games. He noted that hosting the an Am Games will result in the building of excellent world class training facilities which will allow future Ontario athletes to train in their home province. He advised that Ontario has not seen such an international event since the 1930’s in Hamilton. The current plan is for the rowing and kayaking events to be held at the Royal Hendley Regatta and the Welland Canal sites in the Niagara region.
Our speaker for next month will be Margaret Pickles of Niagara College who will speak to the Monarch Butterfly and its epic migrations.
