Charles Curley, formerly of the Department of Revenue, and an expert on taxation was our featured speaker as April 30th loomed in all of our minds. His topic was “Income Tax in Canada”. Not a subject one would think exciting. However Charles discussed taxes with much humour and gave an excellent presentation.
Charles discussed tax allowances, some of which were a health deduction of $7700 for persons with serious health problems, home renovation for disabilities, and cancellation of deduction for safety deposit box fees. Other topics included discussion on the Government insisting on future “mandatory direct deposit of funds, eliminating mailing of cheques, estate administration tax, and he also mentioned that professionals such as doctors can incorporate for tax purposes.
Our speaker this coming month at our next monthly meeting on May 12th will be Dave Alexander, CEO of the Niagara Workforce Planning Board The title of his talk will be “Niagara Trends and Workforce Activities”.
