Our speaker this month was Brady Wood, who is chief communications officer at Niagara Health System, but he spoke to us about the Canadian Arab Institute.
Brady is the interim chair of the Canadian Arab Institute and is the only non-Arab on the board of directors for the organization which was founded in 2011.
He used a PowerPoint presentation to outline the mission and objectives of the organization which includes many high profile Arabs from across Canada. He pointed out that the group’s vision is for an empowered and engaged community in an inclusive and respectful society. He went on to say that their mission is to promote Canadian interests by researching and articulating the perspective and potential of Canadian Arabs on advancing their contributions to society.
Part of the CAI’s work aims to educate Canadians about Canadian Arab culture, heritage and contributions to society. They produce publications, conduct panels, conferences and lecture series providing perspective on Canadian domestic and international interests.
Brady then opened the floor to questions and comments and engaged in a wide-ranging discussion with members. Our speaker at the November 10 meeting will be Bruce Woods. The title of his talk is “Books as Theatre”. He’ll be talking about Stratford, Ontario between the 1920s and 1940s.
